Sweet Baby in the Nest!

Ahhhhh, sweet baby portraits always make my day! The first time I photographed Justice he was 12 days old! Now he’s right about 10 weeks old, and such a sweet baby! Having had the distinct pleasure to have listened to Anne Geddes speak at my photography degree ceremony, I have always admired her approach to photographing babies. She was the originator of a creative style, and really paved the way for those of us who love to represent these lovely little angels in creative ways. Thanks to his mama for bringing him to my studio today! Here are two of my favorites from our session!

Has it been 5 years??? really?? A warm August day (the day before my birthday!) 5 years ago, I photographed Ross and Jessica’s wedding at Mountain Terrace! It was beautiful, and we all had a great time! Jessica chose cobalt blue glass bottles filled with bright gerbera daisies, and their first glance photo is still one of my all time favorites! the smile on Jessica’s face was so adorable! I was happy to hear from them a few years later when Emilia was born, and when I saw them with brand new baby Zach today, I was amazed at what a lovely young lady she has become! Here are couple of my favorites!! Jessica, I think she looks just like you!

Oh, how I love a happily ever after… this baby is soooooo loved, and cherished by all of us who know her, especially her mommy and daddy! Her newborn photography session was a joyous day, and look how much she has grown!!! She’s just so super smiley, and it’s always great to see her and her mommy!! Oh, Mel, you are not gonna believe these photos… oh, well, you probably WILL believe them because you live with Ellie, and see how cute she is every day… mwah! Big hugs and kisses!

I could say it a million times, baby portraits in my San Carlos studio are such a joy! I will have a blog post for each of these babies (oh, how they have grown!) but first, here’s one of all of them together! (no small feat at 4PM when the afternoon crankies can sneak into the sweetest of babies!) Their mommies are all the best of friends, and I have photographed each of their weddings over the years, and as fate would have it, they all have wonderful sweet babies in their arms these days, who I am sure will love growing up together!

I am feeling the spring time, and am so pleased to offer a special portrait mini-session in and around my San Carlos children’s photography studio on Wednesday and Friday, February 10 and 12th, just in time for Valentine’s Day!!! Only $95, which is a savings of almost $200 from our regular session fee! Reserve your 30 minute studio or outdoor session today by calling 415.515.6370, or sending an email to inquiry@millcottagephoto.com. Sessions are available between 10AM and 4:30PM on those two days only!!! We also will be having a special Woodland Series portrait event on Monday, February 15, and are accepting only three clients for that day for an on location session in the Los Altos Hills. The times available are 11:30, 12:00 noon and 12:30, and sessions will be 20 minutes, 1-2 children only.

All new clients will receive a special $25 gift card with purchase of a session, and current clients will receive a complimentary 5×7 print of their favorite image from the session as well as a $25 gift card! Images will be shown in your own personal, password protected web gallery, and will be available for purchase on-line for 3 days after they have been posted, so alert the grandparents, friends and family to be ready! Reposting your gallery after those 3 days will incur a $100 fee, which will automatically be applied to your order!

Today was the day I got to see Michelle and meet Audrey, and she couldn’t be cuter! She’s got her mommy’s grace (and that of her namesake, Audrey Hepburn!) and she looks so much like her daddy too! oh, man… Josh is getting so big, talking full sentences and complex thoughts, learned to swim last week when we were in Tahoe, and today he told me he had to potty four times, and he did. It was not just a ruse to get m&m’s, he really had to potty.

Why am I sharing this with the world on my blog?? Well, that’s just how I roll – I wear my heart on my sleeve, and it’s one of the things that makes me really good at my job of being a wedding and portrait photographer. As a photographer, you really need to connect with people in a short amount of time on a real and personal level! It has to be real… especially with children’s photography. They don’t care if you have the most expensive camera in the world or where you studied, or any of that. Can you get in there and connect with them and play with them? Then you’re the hero, you’re fun, and they have a good time.

So many times parents are stressed out because they have taken time off from work, paid a session fee, and gotten it together to get everyone to the session, and they really want it to go well. I can tell you hundreds of stories about families who have left the session feeling like their kids misbehaved, or didn’t cooperate, and so therefore their images probably won’t live up to their lofty expectations. Then they come, see their images, laugh, cry, and are amazed at what they are seeing – their family, not just what they look like, but who they are… Anyhow, I am so proud of Josh, so happy to get to photograph him, and everybody else’s families, and just wanted to share… Feeling all warm and fuzzy today :^)

Clarence & Avigail’s wedding was the first one I photographed after the birth of my son, Josh… I brought my trusty associates, Jill and Shannon, and we set off for a beautiful day! Their wedding was beautiful, and their families were great to meet! And now, they are expecting their little boy in mid May. I was so happy to see them at the studio today, and as always, they are adorably glowing with love for each other, and their little creation! Thanks so much guys for sharing your growing family with me – I can’t wait til the little guy is born! Don’t forget to call me right away! San Francisco Family Portraits – See, I believe in it too…

The importance of family portraits is a topic I often discuss, and go on and on about… we don’t get these moments back, and we really need to celebrate our family’s love and document it with images! Today Josh, my mom, Karen, and I went to my good friend Tami Desellier’s studio and we did just that! Tami is an amazing photographer, and while I usually hate to be on the other side of the lens, she made it fun, and the images are fantastic!! I hardly have any images of Josh and me, though Ray does his best to make sure to grab a couple whenever we’re out with the camera… and the last time my mom and I had a portrait taken together was in the 80′s… (she looked great then and now, but I had some freaky hair extensions going on, and don’t look like myself at all…) Thanks so much to Tami and her staff! At the Babes and Babies show last weekend, I was lucky enough to be next to Michelle Jeong and her collection of absolutely adorable Zooni hats!!! Amy, one of my long time friends who photographed the event, and helped me tremendously in the booth, had to have a couple, and made me realize that of course I needed to get some too (we bought the Kate’s Moss hat for Josh also, and he looks great in it with his red hair… hoping I can catch him wearing in when I have my camera handy) Malin is a big hit in Kate’s Moss, and Little Miss Eiley got the Pretty In Pink, and feels it is fashion enough on its own…

I always love getting to see Connor!! I photographed his parents’ wedding almost 5 years ago, and Michelle and I were pregnant at the same time. The boys were actually due a day apart until Josh decided to make his debut early. This little guy was quite the scene stealer at Steve’s sister Laura’s wedding back in October as well! Connor has such an infectious smile, and those blue eyes are just to die for… So great to see you guys two days in a row! The play date was a lot of fun!

Yay, yet another offspring from one of the couples whose wedding I photographed!!! Andrew & Jennifer were married at Thomas Fogarty Winery in July of 2006. I was there to work with one of my favorite photographers, Jacki Vaughan of Jacki V Photography, and it was a gorgeous day with some of the nicest folks we have ever met. Anyhow… lots of love in the air, and now they have this handsome son who is about to celebrate his first birthday! He gave us quite a work out, but we had so much fun with him!!

Anne & Garrett were married in April 2005 at Valley Presbyterian Church and had their reception at Palo Alto Hills Golf and Country Club. It was an awesome day from start to finish! They were already parents to an adorable yorkie named Mork, so when Kianna was born, she just fit right in and added to the family! So fun to have Kianna come to the studio – she’s such a beauty, just like her mommy (and daddy too!)
