My Little Pumpkin...

I love to photograph children in a pumpkin patch! The candid style with the colorful background is always a favorite… Doesn’t hurt that Fall is my absolutely favorite season! The crisp snap in the air, the bright blue sky, and pumpkins, pumpkins everywhere!! Here’s two… same patch, same kid, 2 years different… my baby is growing up so fast! Ahhhh…. love that face!

Yummy Ice Cream From Cold Stone Creamery

Whew, it’s been a hot time in the City this summer… we have had numerous days that we could play in the backyard, which in the 10 years we have lived in this house in the fog, have been a rarity until the past year or so… what does that say about global warming?? I digress… Josh and I had to take a trip to Cold Stone Creamery where we had a wonderful treat for our tastebuds… Jello pudding ice cream. OMG. so good. Josh just had the basics… “gramilla” (his word for Vanilla) and m&m’s… He seriously enjoyed it! Here’s a cute image…

Our good friend Mitch suggested we head out to the fair today for all things fried, and we had a blast! It’s been a long time since I have been to a carnival… at least 15 years, but thankfully some things remain the same… thrills, chills, “prizes” you can “win” if you have enough cash, aforementioned fried things, and smiling children covered in ice cream. For my non-California blog readers, the last two are how you can tell you’re in Marin County… cracked me up…

Since so many of my friends and family follow my blog to get updates on the Josh-meister, I do feel the need to post lots of images of him, especially since at this age, he seems to be changing so much every week! On Friday when Jill and I took our photo safari in the zoo, we came across this field of dandelions, and gasped. We gasped again as we saw this adorable blonde little girl go skipping through it in a cute dress and the most darling brown suede Uggs… I skipped myself over to her momma, handed her a card so she wouldn’t think I was some kind of weirdo, and asked if we could take her picture. We got some cute stuff which I’ll share after I get permission from momma to post them here. I kept wishing that Josh was there because I could totally picture an image like this… well, since we go to the zoo what feels like several times a week, my wish was granted yesterday! Here’s my boy in the dandelions… Happy Easter!

Always when I get a new piece of equipment I always test it thoroughly before I trust it and put it to work for my clients… I just purchased the phenomenal new 5D Mark II for this years main camera, and I am completely thrilled with its performance in my tests, and am excited to use it this year!

Nope, we’re not talking Sly Stallone here… my mom used to sing the Rocky Chair song to us when we were little… Josh was rocking her in the rocky chair, and we sang it to him. Lo and behold – on Christmas morning, when he opened his present, this adorable rocking dinosaur, he sang it to us!!! Mom and I cried with joy… my little guy is so smart, and he’s chattering in sentences now!

My wonderful friend Joe, who I have known for around 20 years, sent Josh something amazing… First of all, the gift wrap was a thing of beauty… it made the rest of the gifts green with envy. Then Josh opened it. Seriously… the. coolest gift. ever. These blocks so amazing, so unique, so creative. I wondered where in the world he got them… then my mom said, “hey, doesn’t that one say ‘Josh Sayre’ on it?” The wheels in my mind start cranking… I call Joe, thank him, wish him a Merry Christmas, and then I say, “Did you make these?????” and he says, “Yes!” I am completely blown away at that moment, and barely able to speak (VERY unusual for me – LOL) and I start to cry. What an amazing gift from Uncle Joe… My friend, I can’t even say how much this means to me, um I mean Josh… You are so awesome!

Greetings from our mini-vacation this week in San Diego! We flew in yesterday, and got settled into our condo, which is gorgeous and overlooks the ocean! Today we didn’t do much, just walked around and went to the beach and pier. Josh had a blast. He loved throwing the sand!!! Ran into a couple of photographers doing family portraits… totally can see why they love it here… it’s beautiful. We’re technically in Oceanside, right across from the pier… My darling son is obsessed with cleaning, so he’s just “the Boss” We sent daddy a video this morning, and he totally cracked up – Josh and his vacuum… Also, the view from the pier tonight… Enjoy!

San Francisco Zoo – Josh's First Visit!!

As I stumbled through my kitchen, searching for the coffee pot, I noticed that it was going to be a pretty darn gorgeous day! I picked up the phone, and called my friend Elizabeth, who watches my neighbor’s daughters, and said, “Hey! Let’s go to the zoo!!” We were off! (well, after our brief stop at Starbucks for much needed cups of coffee…)

Eloise and Josh had a blast. It was great because Elo is 6 months older than Josh, so she really showed him the cool stuff… We saw reindeer, flamingos, giraffes, monkeys, birdies, penguins, lions (OMG I was totally freaking out how close they were to us – it was AWESOME). Then the girls had to go… we went shopping for a bit, ate a Zoo Happy Meal for $11.00, and then I thought, “I don’t think we’ve seen enough yet…” We went back in, played on the playground for about 2 minutes. We saw meerkats, amazing owls, more monkeys, and my favorite part, the family zoo, where Josh met some really big “wow-wows” which weren’t actually dogs, but goats. He shrugged and brushed them anyway, and then brushed his own hair with the goat brush, and then brushed the ground too. Then he met more of these strange creatures in the barn. The sheep looked at him incredulously, no doubt completely mesmerized by his cuteness, and entertained by his sheep herding dance. They gathered at the back of the barn, plotting how they might escape. He cleaned up some poo out in the yard (Josh loves to clean!) and finally I had to drag him out of there! I think he had the time of his life. :^) Even Mommy the photographer got suckered into buying completely out of focus photos of Josh and I at the zoo gate… Trying out a new software for slideshows… here’s the day in photos… Slideshow :^)

Josh made his first trip to the beach today with his mommy and his Oma. We were amazed at how much he loved the water. This beach in Princeton is really just perfect… no rough water, and even a fun Aussie dog to share the day with! We saw shells, a seal, and some great seaweed, and Josh thought the sand was yummy!

Enjoy these last couple of days of summer!

Last night I attended a great course with national instructor and Master Photographer, Sam Puc’. It was a terrific amount of information, and it was great to see Sam shoot, and hear her amazing story and see her creative ideas. Very fun to run into many friends there… Natasha and Mike, Misha, Joel, Ryan, Joel, Angela, Jeanne, Anna, Sue, Terrell, Alisha and Brook, Jonathan, Russell, Kim, and a few more that might have slipped my mind!

Found a couple of cool things for the studio at the tradeshow, but one thing might not make it there… there is a chicken thief in the house…

My little baby is one! We celebrated his 365th day on the planet at Oma and Opa’s house for a wonderful dinner, and guess what…??? Josh walked! Once he got going, we couldn’t stop him! He loved walking around the living room, under the table, over to the book case, raiding the fruit bowl, and more laps around the living room. His birthday is tomorrow, but he’s a year old today (silly leap day!) This is how far he’s come… from a little preemie to my big boy walking! I couldn’t be a prouder mom… and see – even professional photographers take snapshots!

I can’t believe my little boy is going to be one on Monday. A year ago today I was finishing up a month-long stint in the hospital on bed-rest, and preparing to meet our child a whole four weeks early. We didn’t know whether we were expecting a boy or a girl – we’re old fashioned and wanted it to be a surprise. We just prayed that whoever our child was that he would be healthy, and we’d both be safe. He was tiny… only 4 lb 12 oz, but healthy and beautiful and a BOY! We were thrilled. This image is from earlier tonight while he was playing on the couch.

No, not me, silly…. I am pleased to announce that after countless meetings with my design team, I have a new logo, and some new swanky business cards for the studio. For those of you who have my current business card, it has MY picture on it. I decided I should maybe, I dunno, feature some of the images I have created instead. If you ever miss MY photo, it’s still here on the blog so you don’t forget what I look like (this message is mostly for family who I see too rarely – if you miss my photo and you’re not family, well, umm… I don’t know what to say!) Here are three sides… (what? a three sided business card?) The adorable baby Kianna is on the back of both cards… I just wanted to mix it up a bit, but keep the overall branding consistent.

Enjoy, and photographer friends, don’t forget to do your spring cleaning and spruce up your marketing materials when you get a spare minute!!

Big Thanks to Ray’s sister, Caroline, for her wonderful birthday gift to her brother!!! There’s not another place we would have rather been this weekend than our beloved Mill Cottage. Yes, it is an actual place… not just some place I created in my mind. Spent the weekend there with Ray and Josh, and enjoyed the pouring rain from the fireplace warmed comfy living room. We read, ate great food, had good wine, and Josh got to see our magical place for himself and explore (read: eat) everything he could get his hands on. One of these days I’ll tell you all about the story of the Mill Cottage, but for now, here’s Josh!

Happy New Year!! We have been so busy through the holiday season, and now are enjoying a welcome break! Meeting with new couples about their wedding plans and photographing new babies fill most of the days that I am not hanging out with Josh.

Josh is 10.5 months old, and is growing like a weed! He has his own website!

Speaking of websites, Mill Cottage Photography finally received a much needed update to include some new images from last year! These are a few of my favorites, and there will be more to come! Stay tuned to the blog and the website to see our exciting new portrait products.
