Has it been 5 years??? really?? A warm August day (the day before my birthday!) 5 years ago, I photographed Ross and Jessica’s wedding at Mountain Terrace! It was beautiful, and we all had a great time! Jessica chose cobalt blue glass bottles filled with bright gerbera daisies, and their first glance photo is still one of my all time favorites! the smile on Jessica’s face was so adorable! I was happy to hear from them a few years later when Emilia was born, and when I saw them with brand new baby Zach today, I was amazed at what a lovely young lady she has become! Here are couple of my favorites!! Jessica, I think she looks just like you!

San Francisco Photographer teaches Children’s portraits | Renegade Pie Fight workshop!

Those of you who follow my blog know that I love to teach other photographers, and regularly schedule time to offer workshops to help out the profession! In addition to it being possibly the best weather I have experienced in San Francisco since I moved here 15 years ago… Sunday was the perfect day to teach a kid’s portraiture workshop with my friends from the Renegades. Special thanks to Martha Blanchfield, freelance PR person, and regular contributor to Rangefinder Magazine for professional photographers, who organized a gorgeous bunch of kids to come and model for us on a bright sunny day in the Tulip Gardens! The highlight of the day (probably for both the photographers AND the kids) was a pie fight between a group of best friends who will love these images as they grow up together! It was Memorial Day weekend, so some of our small patriots also paid tribute to the gool ol’ USA with their fun outfits! We hosed down the kids, wiped down the cameras and headed into the Beach Chalet for a nice snack and some Photoshop and Lightroom lessons, and before you know it, it was time to go! here’s some of my favorites from the day!

Oh, how I love a happily ever after… this baby is soooooo loved, and cherished by all of us who know her, especially her mommy and daddy! Her newborn photography session was a joyous day, and look how much she has grown!!! She’s just so super smiley, and it’s always great to see her and her mommy!! Oh, Mel, you are not gonna believe these photos… oh, well, you probably WILL believe them because you live with Ellie, and see how cute she is every day… mwah! Big hugs and kisses!

I could say it a million times, baby portraits in my San Carlos studio are such a joy! Only $95, which is a savings of almost $200 from our regular session fee! Sessions are available between 10AM and 4:30PM on those two days only!!! We also will be having a special Woodland Series portrait event on Monday, February 15, and are accepting only three clients for that day for an on location session in the Los Altos Hills. Right around the corner from my San Carlos photography studio is a wonderful park where I have done many portrait sessions! Today I had the honor of photographing a 4 year old’s birthday party, and you might think that was all in a day’s work… Well, let me tell you why this little lady is especially incredible! I photographed Alana, and her parents and their doggie for their holiday cards when Alana was about 9 or 10 months old. She took her first steps in my studio, and then the following January her mommy brought her back to do a one year session with CAKE!! (one of my favorite things to do!) To this day I have two big canvases of that session in my office, and her smiling face and adorable blue eyes greet me every day! Fast forward to a few months ago when I was devastated to hear that she was involved in an accident that almost took her life. Thanks to the amazing first responders, the emergency team at Lucille Packard Hospital, and an amazing staff at Children’s Hospital in Oakland, as well as so much love and devotion from her family and all of us who love her and prayed for her, she was running around, enjoying her party, and everyone who was there couldn’t be happier! I came to document the celebration, and we even set up an impromptu portrait station, and my lens was focused on a non-stop parade of adorable children! Just wanted to share one of Alana for everyone to smile, and be so thankful for every day we have with the ones we love! Happy Birthday special girl! I can’t wait to see you and your family again soon!

These beautiful twins were born to Nicole & Miguel, whose destination wedding I photographed in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! I am so happy for their whole family!! Lovely to see Miguel’s mother again too!

Whew, it’s been a hot time in the City this summer… we have had numerous days that we could play in the backyard, which in the 10 years we have lived in this house in the fog, have been a rarity until the past year or so… what does that say about global warming?? I digress… Josh and I had to take a trip to Cold Stone Creamery where we had a wonderful treat for our tastebuds… Jello pudding ice cream. OMG. so good. oh, man… Josh is getting so big, talking full sentences and complex thoughts, learned to swim last week when we were in Tahoe, and today he told me he had to potty four times, and he did. It was not just a ruse to get m&m’s, he really had to potty.

Why am I sharing this with the world on my blog?? Well, that’s just how I roll – I wear my heart on my sleeve, and it’s one of the things that makes me really good at my job of being a wedding and portrait photographer. As a photographer, you really need to connect with people in a short amount of time on a real and personal level! It has to be real… especially with children’s photography. They don’t care if you have the most expensive camera in the world or where you studied, or any of that. Can you get in there and connect with them and play with them? Then you’re the hero, you’re fun, and they have a good time.

So many times parents are stressed out because they have taken time off from work, paid a session fee, and gotten it together to get everyone to the session, and they really want it to go well. I can tell you hundreds of stories about families who have left the session feeling like their kids misbehaved, or didn’t cooperate, and so therefore their images probably won’t live up to their lofty expectations. Then they come, see their images, laugh, cry, and are amazed at what they are seeing – their family, not just what they look like, but who they are… Anyhow, I am so proud of Josh, so happy to get to photograph him, and everybody else’s families, and just wanted to share… Feeling all warm and fuzzy today :^)

Mill Valley Maternity Photography – Lovely

I just want to thank my clients for the past week… I have had some wonderful people in my studio and in front of my lens. It seems like a whirlwind with 11 sessions in 7 days, but there are many amazing moments, and I can’t wait to share them all with you! I just returned from two days in Mill Valley photographing my Marin County clients at a perfect location with redwood trees and perfect soft light. I have only downloaded one of the sessions here, so watch for more posts in the coming days… I know you guys are going nuts to see the images!

Linda and Roan came to see me this morning, and we had the best time! The moment I met Linda and her mom at the Babes and Babies event, I felt an instant connection with them, and couldn’t wait to photograph Linda in those last special weeks with her son before she gives birth to her new baby girl. I find with my clients that this time is so bittersweet, and while it changes as your family grows, there just something magical about those last weeks with your first child just before your family welcomes the new baby. Roan was such a well behaved little guy, a little shy at first, but we all became best friends by the end. Thanks for sharing your family with me!

I just love the warmth of the tungsten light, another thing I learned from working with Mercury.

At the Babes and Babies show last weekend, I was lucky enough to be next to Michelle Jeong and her collection of absolutely adorable Zooni hats!!! Amy, one of my long time friends who photographed the event, and helped me tremendously in the booth, had to have a couple, and made me realize that of course I needed to get some too (we bought the Kate’s Moss hat for Josh also, and he looks great in it with his red hair… hoping I can catch him wearing in when I have my camera handy) Malin is a big hit in Kate’s Moss, and Little Miss Eiley got the Pretty In Pink, and feels it is fashion enough on its own…

Josh made his first trip to the beach today with his mommy and his Oma. We were amazed at how much he loved the water. This beach in Princeton is really just perfect… no rough water, and even a fun Aussie dog to share the day with! We saw shells, a seal, and some great seaweed, and Josh thought the sand was yummy!

I always love getting to see Connor!! I photographed his parents’ wedding almost 5 years ago, and Michelle and I were pregnant at the same time. The boys were actually due a day apart until Josh decided to make his debut early. This little guy was quite the scene stealer at Steve’s sister Laura’s wedding back in October as well! Connor has such an infectious smile, and those blue eyes are just to die for… So great to see you guys two days in a row! The play date was a lot of fun!

I am bursting with pride!! My image of Josh entitiled “The World Unknown,” which scored the highest I have ever scored in print competition back in June has just been featured on the cover of The Bulletin, which is the Professional Photographers of the Great Bay Area’s monthly magazine!

I just love this image because it sums up so much of how motherhood makes me feel… like your precious little one is on the edge of brand new experiences and adventures every day. They are so small in such a big world, and yet they are so curious and eager to learn.

I had the pleasure of photographing this little newborn guy today, and what a cutie he is!! I love photographing newborns in their homes for so many reasons – it’s easier for new mommies and daddies, it’s comfortable for the little ones, and once in a while you can photograph them with something in their house that they will grow up with. When I visited their home earlier in the week for our consultation, I immediately pictured this image. He’s the shining superstar of the day!
