It has been a busy fall, and as I realize that Halloween is mere days away (as is the fantastically fun Almost Halloween wedding of Besty and Jared) I am really wondering where October went! Travel, photography, dreams, and wonderful moments all mark the way this fall!! And speaking of dreams, did I tell you that I have been chosen as one of 9 San Francisco Wedding Photographers to compete at the San Francisco Fairmont Hotel tomorrow afternoon for Best of San Francisco?!?!?! I am really honored that they contacted me, and can’t wait for the judging. Wish me luck! I am showing two images that are really an example of what is special about working with me on your wedding day… when I spoke to one of my favorite former brides as we planned her maternity session, she paid me the most wonderful compliment about how I make my clients so comfortable, and that I truly “see” them, not just beautiful in an image, but into their lives and who they are. Ginny, that was one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me… thanks so much! Not sure when the award list will be announced, but I’ll let you know when I do! As the red carpet Oscar wannabees always say…. “it’s an honor to be nominated as one of the 9 best Wedding Photographers in San Francisco…” but of course, I sure hope I win!!!

Two Lovebirds & a Chihuahua...

Many of you may know that I received my Photographic Craftsman degree last year, which is one of the highest recognitions for speaking, writing, or mentoring on photography; & positions the photographer as an authority in the industry. It is awarded in recognition of service to the profession as an orator, author, or mentor. I love to teach… a wise friend of mine once told me that the best way to really know something is to teach it to another. Today was the big day for a fantastic seminar called a Day with the DivAs, and I and three of my very best friends and colleagues gave a whole day workshop through the Professional Photographers of the Greater Bay Area to share some of our expertise in image processing, workflow, retouching, sales, pricing and presentation, as well as an afternoon of photography demonstration! We were so pleased that it sold out, and enjoyed meeting all of the partipants! It was down & dirty, nuts & bolts information designed to share some of the things that have made us sucessful San Francisco photographers… Here is one of my favorites from my part of the demo… Mischa & Brianne are one of the couples that has what we all want from love… a playful passion for each other that really makes you smile! I am crazy for this retro style photo. Love you guys!

Professional Photographer’s Conference – Imaging USA, Nashville here I come!!

Tomorrow this time I will be on my way to chilly Nashville (aka NashVegas) for the professional photographers of America’s Annual conference, Imaging USA! So great to attend these photography conferences where I get to network with my friends in the photography business from all over the world, see new and exciting products offered by the top vendors that I can bring home to my clients, and being inspired by tons of wedding and portrait photography – winning awards and on display! It really is a great way to start off the new year!

Even though we have made you wait for our big announcement until mid January, we have already had an inquiry and booking (yay!!) of our new way to purchase wedding photography… ONE – that is EXCITING! Professional Photographers of America – Kimberly Sayre elected to PPA Council

I am honored to report that thanks to the overwhelming support of my fellow California professional photographers, I have been elected to serve on the advisory Council for the Professional Photographers of America (PPA.) As a council member, I will ensure that the concerns of California professionals are heard by the board of directors and staff of PPA, and help make decisions that will shape policy for the organization. For those of you who are PPA members, feel free to contact me with your ideas and concerns so I can do a great job for you, and for those of you who are photographers but not PPA members, please let me invite you to join one of the most respected and proactive professional associations available for photographers! Award Winning Photographer – Official Degree Photo

Here’s me with PPA President Dennis Craft, and my sponsor and mentor, Zee Bezabeh for our official degree gettin’ portrait! You should have seen the crazy scene of trying to herd over a hundred professional photographers in for the big group shot. There was much more yelling because so many of us like to be BEHIND the camera, and some don’t pay attention as well as your average wedding party member or guest. LOL!! All I can say is that I am thankful that when I photograph photographers (and I have done several photographer’s weddings) I am glad it’s usually one at a time!

Baby Portraits – On the Cover!!!!

I am bursting with pride!! My image of Josh entitiled “The World Unknown,” which scored the highest I have ever scored in print competition back in June has just been featured on the cover of The Bulletin, which is the Professional Photographers of the Great Bay Area’s monthly magazine!

I just love this image because it sums up so much of how motherhood makes me feel… like your precious little one is on the edge of brand new experiences and adventures every day. They are so small in such a big world, and yet they are so curious and eager to learn.

Congratulations 2008 Affiliate Newsletter Editors and Webmasters!

PPA recently held its 2008 Affiliate Communications Competition. Designed to improve affiliate publications and Web sites, and recognize those involved in producing these communication tools, the competition awards every eligible entrant one PPA merit per entry. Those who place or earn an honorable mention receive an additional merit for each winning entry.

Four qualified judges were brought together from the communications field, specializing in different segments—from public relations and consulting to Web communication. They scored the newsletters and Web sites in the following three areas:
editorial content
overall appearance
service to members
